Guide to searching PubMed

What is NCBI?

NCBI is the National Center for Biotechnology Information.  Setting up an NCBI account allows you to personalize your PubMed:

  • Save collections of results from searches (otherwise the Clipboard only holds results for 8 hours).

  • Save your searches and set up alerts that can be set to automatically run against database updates and send the results to your e-mail

  • Customize personal preferences like filters and display settings.

Why do it?

  • PubMed is free.  You can use it anywhere anytime forever.
