A podcast is a digital media file (either audio or video), released episodically and downloaded automatically off a Web site via a feed reader application also known as podcast aggregator and podcatcher. The word "podcast" is a combination of the words "broadcast" and "iPod" ®, one of the most popular portable MP3 players.
Although many people listen to podcasts on MP3 players, one may also listen to podcasts on personal computers.
Thousands of podcasts on a multitude of subjects exist. The podcasts to the right and below will be of interest to scientists; they may be accessed via RSS feeds or in a podcast directory, such as the one in the iTunes store.
