How to Write a Philosophy Paper

Philosophical writing differs from other writing.  In a philosophy paper, one must make a reasoned defense of some claim.  

Virtues of a good philosophy paper include: 

1.  Claims must be defended, reasons must be offered;

2.  Modesty--should make a small point;

3.  Originality;

4.  Clarity, simplicity, straightforwardness;

5.  Logical organization.
