Faculty Resources & Services

A guide to the Bishop Library resources and services that are available to faculty.

eBooks in the Library Catalog

The eBooks that the library has access to are cataloged and searchable in the Bishop Library Catalog.   You can search by title, author, subject and words or phrase. Primo (the search interface for our catalog) groups books and ebooks together--right now, there's no way to separate them out.

eBook Collections

The library subscribes to general e-book collections, such as Ebook Central (formerly Ebrary Academic Complete) and EBSCO eBooks, that cover a wide-range of subject areas.  The library also has access to specialized eBook collections through online databases such as:

eBooks can be viewed online on a computer, laptop or other web-enabled device.   With the exception of Ebrary, entire e-books cannot be downloaded for offline viewing.  Some of the eBook vendors will allow a chapter or range of pages to be downloaded to a PDF.

Ebook Central does have a download feature for offline viewing.  Entire eBooks can be downloaded to a desktop/laptop computer and transferred to most e-readers for up to a 21 day loan (except for Kindle devices).  A free installation of Adobe Digital Editions is required to view the downloaded eBooks.  These eBooks can also be downloaded for a 21 day loan to Apple and Android devices.  You would need to install the Bluefire book reader app and set up an Adobe ID (free).  For more information about Ebook Central, see the Ebook Central LibGuide.

E-books are available 24-7 both on campus as well as off-campus with your LVC username/password. You can directly access Ebook Central, EBSCOhost eBooks, etc. from the library's online database list, or you can search for e-books using the library catalog.  To access the eBook catalog search from the library's website, click on the Books & E-Books link under "Find".
